Back on the Road Coalition filed suit against the Department of Motor Vehicles

On October 25, 2016, advocates of the Back on the Road Coalition filed suit against the Department of Motor Vehicles to stop the unlawful practice of driver’s license suspensions for failure to pay a traffic fine. Our clients are people for whom there has been zero inquiry into the person’s financial circumstances before they are deprived of their driver’s licenses. This lawsuit aims to bring statewide relief to these hundreds of thousands of Californian drivers who are punished just for their poverty. For a link to the complaint, see here
