Fund for the Future

For EBCLC’s 25^th Anniversary, we launched the $1 million Fund for the Future (FFTF) campaign to increase EBCLC’s capacity to provide training and services. The goal of the campaign was two-fold: 1) to support in-house postgraduate law fellows, and 2) to expand services to clients.

Thanks to the generous support of individual donors and public and private funders, we are 95% of the way to our goal, and have been able to hire a remarkable cohort of FFTF fellows!

About the Campaign

Since 1988, EBCLC has advanced justice though education and advocacy. In the 25+ years since EBCLC’s doors were opened by a small group of dedicated law students, lawyers, and law professors, EBCLC has served well over 75,000 clients and trained more than 1,500 law students through Berkeley Law School’s community-based clinical program.

In this time, EBCLC’s programs have grown organically in response to the community’s unmet legal needs, as have the evolving learning priorities of the law school community. From the housing and welfare practice groups started in the 1980s, EBCLC has since added programs in health, immigration, reentry, consumer law, homeless rights, community economic development, policy advocacy, and, most recently, youth education and juvenile defense. EBCLC’s multidisciplinary and multi-modal approach increases our ability to holistically address the many overlapping legal needs for people living in poverty, helping to make their lives more secure, productive, healthy, and hopeful.

In addition to providing in-house fellowships, the FFTF also raised money to increase EBCLC’s ability to serve clients through investments in improved technology and accessibility. We are now poised to actualize some of the ideas for expanded mobilization. We are actively seeking partnerships with leaders in the technology industry who can provide funding or in-kind donations of mobile technology to help leverage our Fund for the Future dollars to have the greatest impact.
