Anne Ferguson (Berkeley Law ’20/EBCLC)

Fall 2019, Spring 2019, and Spring 2020 Clean Slate Clinical Student

Anne spent her three semesters in Clean Slate showing that she is an independent, creative and fearless advocate for clients. She was our resident expert in presenting information to and answering myriad questions of people incarcerated in San Quentin who were participating in the Prison to Employment Program. In addition, she trained the Clean Slate staff so that we can continue her good work there now that she is gone. In court, she argued fiercely and effectively on behalf of people hoping to mitigate the effects of a criminal record on their employment and licensing opportunities. She tried and prevailed on our unit’s only evidentiary motion for factual innocence, convincing the judge that the client did not start a fight for which he was arrested and charged.
