Fall 2018  Education, Defense & Justice for Youth: Education Advocacy Clinical Student

Kathy fought tirelessly for a young client who was facing expulsion from her high school after allegedly fighting with another student. Kathy brought empathy and compassion to her work with her client, leaving no stone unturned in her investigation of the allegations and preparation for the hearing. During the expulsion hearing itself, Kathy rose to the challenge, advocating fiercely on behalf of her client, and when we lost at hearing, Kathy pushed forward, drafting a compelling demand letter to the school district threatening to appeal the decision if they did not let her client return to school. Above all else, Kathy put her young client first throughout the unjust school discipline process, listening to her and ensuring that her voice was heard.
