Roberto Villa Olivas (Berkeley Law ’20/EBCLC)

Fall 2019 Consumer Justice Clinical Student

Rob juggled so many distinct and diverse tasks during clinic that Cirque-Du-Soleil tried to recruit him for one of its shows. Rob came to the Consumer Justice clinic to learn new ways to combat the inequities in our criminal justice system. As the government enlists profit-driven private contractors to handle everything from pre-trial release to the prisons themselves, we are constantly in search of new tools to help people protect themselves from exploitation. In addition to helping many of our Spanish-speaking clients with their straight consumer issues, Rob also helped staff the Traffic Clinic, where he assisted most of their monolingual Spanish-speaking clients with fines, fees, and impounds. Rob then attended the first “Crimsumer” conference in the nation, to find more ways to serve the public. As the Crimsumerism field grows, we know Rob will be at its forefront, and we can’t wait to see what he accomplishes.
