Madison Bower (Berkeley Law ’21)

Fall 2020 Health & Welfare Clinical Student

Our Health & Welfare Unit is fortunate to have worked alongside Madison for two semesters, during which she deepened her knowledge of how to support clients in navigating the convoluted bureaucracy of the Social Security Administration. Helping with applications, continuing disability reviews, and appeals, Madison ensured her clients had better access to health care, their medical records, and the legal frameworks and procedures for fighting their cases most powerfully. Madison was passionate about learning to be a strong advocate for our community members in a wraparound way. She also assisted people with Medi-Cal eligibility, In-Home Supportive Services, State Disability Insurance, and in-depth advocacy to successfully address housing habitability concerns and obtain reasonable accommodations. Madison was also an invaluable leader in the Food Justice Project SLP (student-led service project), connecting UC Berkeley undergraduate students with food assistance and working on food policy projects for lasting system change. Madison, you will help many people with your dedicated and versatile advocacy style.
