Fall 2019 Health & Welfare Clinical Student
Marissa provided essential support to many individuals, including two clients fighting for their sole source of income, Social Security disability. She partnered with both clients in preparing for hearing. Meanwhile, she assisted one client with a DFEH discrimination complaint against his former employer, helping him feel seen and heard with regard to all his legal concerns. Marissa simultaneously worked with the other client to slowly build her comfort and confidence to testify via interpreter about extremely sensitive and emotional topics, which resulted in the client winning her case at an unusually early stage. Marissa brought a seriousness, focus, and respect to her interactions with clients that helped them feel safer in being vulnerable. Her unique sense of humor helped her colleagues take a breath. She has a wide range of skills and many more victories in her future.
