Lesley E. Weaver
In her twenty year career, which began as a summer intern at EBCLC, Lesley Weaver has focused primarily on cases that protect the public interest, consumers, and public entities. In 2015, Lesley was appointed by U.S. District Judge Charles R. Breyer to the Plaintiffs’ Steering Committee in In re Volkswagen “Clean Diesel” Marketing, Sales Practices, and Products Liability Litig., MDL No. 2672 CRB (JSC). The case involved the deliberate deception by Volkswagen of emissions regulations by selling cars that could sense when emissions were being tested, such that emissions controls were only turned on during tests, and did not operate while on the road. Ms. Weaver and the VW PSC recovered more than $17 billion for consumers, including nearly $5 billion for the environment. It is the largest automotive class action recovery ever. Ms. Weaver was also recently appointed to lead the case against Fiat, premised on similar claims.
