- Provide direct legal services to clients assisted through our transgender legal services project, our HIV/AIDS Law Project, medical-legal partnerships with East Bay hospitals, and our weekly Public Benefits Clinic on issues including denied, terminated or reduced public income and health benefits (SSI, SSDI, CAPI, GA, CalWORKs, IHSS, CalFresh, Medi-Cal, etc.) and pre-litigation housing matters including eviction prevention, habitability violations, rent increases, subsidized housing appeals, and reasonable accommodations
- Work collaboratively with other EBCLC staff to provide holistic wrap-around services addressing the root issues of poverty
- Assist in the supervision of clinical law students performing the above legal services. Supervision duties may include substantive law and skills training, individual and group case reviews, and day-to-day supervision of students’ legal work
- Provide periodic legal training for medical providers, community partners, and client groups
- Complete administrative tasks, such as those related to grant and services reporting
- Additional tasks as assigned by Supervisor
- Ability to work effectively with a diverse range of groups, including people of color, people who are without shelter, immigrants, non-English speakers, people with mental disabilities, people experiencing domestic violence, law students, service providers, government employees, and community partners
- Prefer direct experience representing low-income clients in SSI and other public benefits cases, including administrative law
- J.D. required, California State Bar membership highly desirable
- Strong interpersonal skills, flexibility, and demonstrated ability to work well independently and as part of a team
- Demonstrated organizational and administrative skills
- Experience with, or strong interest in, law student supervision and training
- Excellent written and oral advocacy skills
- Bilingual in a second language preferred
Salary & Benefits:
This is a full-time (35-hour workweek) temporary (approximately six months) salaried position.
Starting salary for this exempt position is $60,000 – $90,000 based on the number of years of prior legal experience, as, as dictated by the EBCLC salary scale.
