EBCLC is pleased to announce the launch of a new medical-legal partnership with UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospital Oakland (CHO) to provide free legal services to patients and their families. EBCLC’s Health and Economic Security Program will host community legal clinics at CHO on the second Thursday of every month. Through these clinics, our team will help low-income individuals and families navigate increasingly complex systems to access and retain healthcare coverage and public benefits. Community legal clinics are open to everyone, regardless of immigration status, and EBCLC’s Immigration Program will also provide complementary support to undocumented and mixed status families.

Our new community legal clinics represent a continued commitment to delivering more integrated, person-centered legal services for those who experience the highest risk of losing access to life-saving care and support,” said EBCLC Executive Director Zoë Polk. “At a time when low-income communities are becoming more distrustful of institutions, our vital medical-legal partnership model is a way to keep Californians healthy and secure.”

EBCLC began its first medical-legal partnership in 1989 and has since been a leader in developing this successful service delivery model in Alameda County. EBCLC’s medical-legal partnership model reflects our belief that all Californians deserve the opportunity to be healthy, which means addressing both the legal and social barriers that too often prevent people from thriving.
