Manaeha Rao (they/them) is a J.D. Candidate at UC Berkeley School of Law with a focus in health justice and legal determinants of health. Their work centers on expanding access to healthcare, public benefits, and environmental wellbeing for low-income communities, LGBTQ+ people, and women of color. At the East Bay Community Law Center’s Health and Welfare Clinic, Manaeha provided direct legal services through medical–legal partnerships, engaged in legislative advocacy, and worked to connect clients to federal, state, and county public benefits programs. Before law school, Manaeha worked at Goldberg Kohn on False Claims Act litigation and environmental justice matters, and led public health research at Stanford on racial disparities in tobacco use and cystic fibrosis diagnosis. Outside their legal and research work, Manaeha enjoys ceramics and pottery, a practice that grounds their creativity and connection to community.
