EBCLC's Sharon Djemal Appointed by Governor Gavin Newsom as Alameda County Superior Court Judge

East Bay Community Law Center is overjoyed to announce that after twenty years of service advocating for low-income renters and then founding, directing, and expanding our Consumer Justice Clinic, program director Sharon Djemal has accepted Governor Gavin Newsom’s Alameda County Superior Court judge appointment. In her two decades at EBCLC, Sharon has dramatically expanded the rights and protections of all California consumers through ground-up policy advocacy, mentored dozens of emerging racial justice advocates, and pioneered the Bay Area’s only “one-stop shop” for direct legal services. She helped to discharge more than $4 million in consumer debt for low-income clients, secured critical bank levy reform with the passage of SB-616, and advanced EBCLC's ability to solve our community members' legal issues related to student loans, credit card debt, debt settlement, predatory lenders, and consumer scams.
