Education

Juris Doctor UC Berkeley School of Law (2023)
B.A. Public Policy, Stanford University (2017)

Kaya is currently a Brian Lewinstein Youth Justice Fellow working within the Education Defense & Justice for Youth (EDJY) practice. She graduated from UC Berkeley’s law school in Spring of 2023.

Kaya was first introduced to EBCLC and EDJY as a clinical law student working as an education advocate and on building partnerships with community organizations. While in law school, she interned with the San Francisco Public Defender’s office and with the Washington Appellate Project, and did field research on bail practices in Mississippi. Prior to law school, she worked at the ACLU of Washington as a paralegal and in the Washington State Senate during the 2020 session. She was drawn to EBCLC’s commitment to community lawyering and to EDJY’s work in disrupting the school-to-prison-pipeline in partnership with clients and their communities. She looks forward to supporting her clients and helping their voices be heard.
