Civic Engagement
Fostering Civic Engagement in Systemically Excluded Communities
The East Bay Community Law Center (EBCLC) implements a client-centered and holistic service model to create a world where those at the intersection of multiple oppressions are given equal opportunity to participate in democracy. EBCLC invests in community power by collaborating with individuals historically excluded from democratic processes to hold their public institutions accountable. We safeguard their immigration status, meet their holistic social needs, and open pathways to public service and civic activity. We believe that those most burdened by systemic oppression and excluded from democratic processes are uniquely positioned to create new possibilities for their own communities. We will continue to act in service of these communities before, during, and after national political shifts, existing as both a physical and social pillar for democratic participation and engagement.
Our Stories
“I testified in city council because not having a home is traumatic and trauma can paralyze a person. People don’t know how to move forward, and they need someone to help them along. It is so very important to offer them the resources to get them inside, out of the elements and out of danger.”

Investing in Democracy Through Voter Registration
On September 26th, 2024 EBCLC opened it’s doors for our Community Open House and Celebration event. Around 200 community members, including our South Berkeley neighbors, partner organizations, and clients joined us for voter registration, political education, and free legal services.
